helikon records launch with the debut vinyl release from greek electronic duo sone urbia. a collection of improvised live recordings which took place between 2012 and 2013.

one of the holy grail of the minimal synth and one of the most obscure musical projects ever produced in italy is finally reissued on mannequin records. originally released in 1981 by broadbean records, a sub-label of lm records, flo & andrew only release take suicide was home-recorded and home-mixed by the duo in bologna, using early drum machines like the boss dr-55 and the korg kr-55, analog synthesizers, guitar, saxophone, tape loops. flo & andrew music is truly unique and exemplifies the fact that limitation can be the perfect source for creativity. the title-track and to committ suicid’ travel through contort and nervous synth sounds and loops, taking somehow inspiration from the no wave heroes, while japanese girls is nothing less than a beautiful minimal electronics track in the mythology of the futuristic rise of japanese country. recently (re)discovered, ‘take suicide’ is a milestone of the european minimal synth singles and is not really a coincidence that a young generations of producers take it as inspiration (you can see take suicide floating in the tracklist of artists as helena hauff and ngly). another must have in your collection / record bag! mastering by ruud 66.

d-floor is ready to come back on vinyl with the new ep by nice7. from the title track “running man”, with catchy vocal hook, to the more emotional “red on sand”, this release marks a new series from the talented italian duo. analog synths, house grooves and old samples working together in both mixes.

up first is get enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. it is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. the title track, toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. remixing are the tech duo of pleasurekraft, whose releases on octopus and mood records have won them plenty of dj and dancing fans. they layer in some dark melodies to sq80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards.

ondon-based duo jamka return with inter alia, the latest evidence of their patient, intimate relationship with their analogue machines. from the start there’s a sense of event – we encounter clear, interlaced electronic textures, powerful analogue drones and well-placed beats. the tracks aren’t soundscapes so much as fertile electronic soundfields. patemp continuously expands in an incredibly subtle but powerful way and shows that jamka’s technical skills don’t preclude an emotional touch. on the tight and minimal anazmo, the coiled energy bears traces of minimal techno and radical electronica, but it’s beyond either of these. while the album passes quickly, it’s full of detail and the thoughtfulness and craft that have gone into it are evident. dwa offers the chance to appreciate the flow and the sheen of its analogue textures – the modernist romance of the power line hum and its promise of technological-cultural progress. jamka are known for their dynamic live performances and this energy is almost tangible on derazor. the stately igora is a strong, bold close to the album, offering surprises right till the end. the sharp, metallic details ripple through the mix and an anthemic sequence shines through. inter alia makes clear that jamka are worthy inheritors of slovakia’s proud late modernist traditions of radical architecture and electronic music. this is a work of craft that demands respect and repeated listening.

mamie s records is a record-label curated by la mamie s that represents electronic music artists since 2016. based in paris and founded in 2007, the mamie s crew is collecting vinyls since their young age. they met some musicians along the way and they would like to share with you their crushes. the first one is kodäma... kodäma is a music duo formed in 2014 by kiala ogawa (singer and composer originally from japan and congo) and by t-time (bassist and composer). the word --kodama--, meaning --echo-- in japanese, also refers to spirits conveyed by trees and forests. according to the legends, these spirits are responsible for the the phenomenon in which the mountains echo. kodäma’s universe is very linked to kiala’s cultural sphere with, as a major source of inspiration, her childhood’s memories from the japanese countryside. kodäma is a subtle combination of electronic and acoustic sounds with kiala’s captivating voice, blending english and japanese. from this mixture of sounds emerges a spiritual, experimental music marked by their own neo soul groove

kdms, the duo made up of london singer/songwriter kathy diamond and silesian producer max skiba, return with a brilliant sophomore album of club anthems and torch songs, synthetic beats and live instruments. the new old normal, out 9th december, follows their debut album kinky dramas & magic stories on gomma.

beneaths early productions first surfaced on the wifey show on deja vu fm. releases followed through his own no symbols label, dj pinch s tectonic and blackdowns keysound. he is widely acclaimed for his originality, in synthesising the dread soundscapes of 2004-2006 dubstep with the rolling tempo of uk funky and echoes of the bleep n bass subgenre of uk house and techno. this debut for niche n bump (orchestrated by a member of the wifey crew) showcases his most uncompromising work, mixing wild, off-kilter bass with mutating, otherworldly tones. swing ting are a manchester dj and production duo behind the city s energetic club nights of the same name. known for injecting up-to-the-minute uk music with bashment-inspired energy, here their remix ably advances that mission. armed with breaking glass, dub sirens and enhanced bass pressure it blasts bellz into a sleek shape for peak-time dancefloors, resembling their 2011 overhall of mosca s tilt shift for fat city.

moving across the dynamics of feelings and rythms of matter, oltrarno recordings presents “observing organic structures”, a mini lp produced from the duo raccoglimento parziale. the breath of analog machines tarnishes the infinite mirrors of possibilities. our duo wants us to absorb their work not only with the ears, but through all our pores. attention becomes our antenna. to refine this package, long time friend of the duo spacetravel, who just released his debut double-ep on perlon, elaborates his personal view with a full galloping remix.

savage grounds return to lux rec for the third time, with their third record. atrocities comes after unpleasant music for unpleasant people, released in 2015, and over fences, 2014. it is, as much as the previous 2, the result of investigations in music, live, composed with a minimum amount of instruments. the duo, comprised of cco and daniele cosmo, worked with a roland 606, a roland 909 and a modular synthesiser. experimenting with fm modulation and loose sequences. the result is concrete noise, anger, ghostly voices, and above all, the sheer conscience of human failures. atrocities marks number 30 in the lux rec catalogue. it comes as a 12inch + 7inch package.

last release of the year for the berlin based collective slow life. a great pack of dancefloor killers by the british duo 100 hz, and the usual suspect saverio celestri. the veteran couple formed by lee renacre and james chapman showcase their classic sound with two unreleased tracks from the vaults, and the talented italian dj/producer adds two of his latest productions, where displays his matured understanding of playful but emotional techno.

having opened feel my bicep up for the first time with their previous 12” from new zealand duo sandboards, bicep now welcome another new signing into the fold in the form of brassica. in an extension of a bond established on a civil music record released back in may of 2016 which saw bicep remix tears i cant afford brassica presents his time tunnel ep, a rich and varied 4-track record spanning acid, breaks and balmy house music. also included in the package is an edit from the sphinx and a remix from mysterious hardware fiend roy of the ravers who follows up 12inches on acid waxa and the centrifuge with a tough, tumbling take on the title track that caps off another solid addition to the irish dou s evolving imprint.

rare brazil album made available again through mr bongo, incl. voce abuso & kabaluere. nice! a truly fantastic record that sounds the way it looks – psychedelic rock, samba-funk and tripped out mpb. features kabaluere as sampled by marcelo d2 on his hit qual e. arranged by rogerio duprat, featuring legendary guitarist lanny gordin. antonio carlos & jocafi were a very successful and famous brazilian writing duo, born in bahia. they worked with the likes of wilson simonal, rosinha de valença, trio mocotó, milton banana, toquinho and more. originally released on rca brazil in 1971, this was the duos debut lp. two versions of the album cover exist in brazil – this, the psyched-out, burnt out version, and a much less exciting photograph of the chaps, pressed to include the single desacato which became a popular hit in brazil and several european countries.

following on from 2015 s mammoth release, work them records call in flexxseal boss christopher joseph, parisian duo behzad & amarou and label founder spencer parker to remix caiazzo the dredge ep. punchy kicks and eerie drones initiate christopher josephs recreation of lowbrow as numerous dusky atmospherics ebb in and out of the mix. next up, renowned concrete paris residents behzad & amarou deliver a mesmerising slice of techno with intricate percussion, floating pads and metallic aesthetics in their remix of dredge. on the b-side, work thems spencer parker presents two versions of refraction that emphasise ample low-end, sinister whirrs and an undulating synth that will continue to shake clubs throughout the future.

the dj/production duo from munich back with four tracks full of bass-heavy excursions into hybrid forms of club music close to grime, dancehall, dub, techno and the yet unnamed territory in between their natural habitat. lead single and first track of the ep is copper and lead, which features london city warlord riko dan of roll deep fame, spitting dangerous lyrics on a bashment/grimeriddim. following this is blurred vision, a low end monster named after their gigantic soundsystem event series, exploring the middle ground between dub and the technoleaning 4x4 universe. up next is killer, a song with warrior queen from jamaica, who prepares for a dancehall dub war on a 808-heavy beat straight from miami,err, munich. topping the ep off is siren riddim, an instrumental uptempo bomb for the apocalypse club gang and all the gunfinger crew.

nested structure is the first great circles release from artists outside of philadelphia. thrive are tetsuya yoshida and hitoshi kojima. they both grew up in the north kanto area of japan. they first met at the club run by tetsuya yoshida called sound a base nest, which is known as having the best sound system in the north kanto area. in 2007, the duo started their dj / producing unit thrive. previous releases have included a split 12inch with keia yano for japanese label struct, and recent solo releases by hitoshi for always human tapes and for his own label ambivalent deviation. this record almost didnt happen! — tetsuya and hitoshi were picking up great circles records in japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the struct 12inch to check out. while cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo cd of unreleased thrive material inside. we drove around listening to it and week later we agreed to release a 12inch. the music on the nested structure 12inch is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. its hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.

the second release on arcing seas by label heads cassegrain. this new material presents the duos very individual approach to tonality within the techno framework, combined with a subtle tribal influence. maintaining their aim, they keep things exciting for the club as well as sonically. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name. a year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together.

quality house label fina records are back with their next carefully curated ep of 2016. this one comes from the choice house duo of rob glassett and sam fussell aka homepark, who serve up four more of their finely crafted cuts. over the last six years, homepark have slowly but surely built up a classy discography that takes in smooth and seductive deep house that has real drive. it has come on labels like ornate music and chez damiers courtesy of balance recordings, and always marries a classic sense of house history with fresh new perspectives for both head and heel.

berlin-cologne based duo atlantik is well known for incredible ravish live sets. people go ballistic! georg and clemens played their set more than three years ago on one of the parties and everybody instantly felt in love with it. atlantik has got a residency at the world famous sisyphos berlin where they set up their impressing analog machine park on a regular basis. the snö ep contains two original tracks plus a crispy remix by feines tier friend schlepp geist.

for its 25th release kiev-based label artreform invited exceptional artists - legendary moscow electronic duo scsi-9. for artreform anton kubikov and maxim milyutenko prepared the new track in their recognizable styles of groovy, meticulously arranged tech-house with a myriad of nuances. trombone groove ep promises to become a perfect gift for all who loves scsi-9’s music since their iconic releases on famous label kompakt and their own pro-tez.

the duo gravity disturbance opens with the first reference of his newly founded label ritual waves, where they intend to worship the electronics from his serious, dark and hypnotic perspective. his first proposal “unsynchronized movement” has three tracks created in 2014 (the year in which this formation is born) and representing the mutation that has been his personal vision of techno, without renouncing its essence purely underground. gravity disturbance finds its place in the production and makes the leap to the scene, where they have much to contribute.

the first release on doble bilder is curated by the duo mørk, formed by emanuele pertoldi and francesco devincenti. pareidolia ep tells the phenomena from which it takes its name, that is a subconscious illusion that makes us see forms and recognizable objects in amorphous structures surrounding us. the ep evokes three pareidolia phenomena through sounds assembled live with hardware and recorded on tape.

last year, an enigmatic name seemed to appear out of thin-air. sam weston was apparently a fresh upstart in the australian house-scene releasing a dusty collection of late-night/early-morning jams aptly titled shiraz voyager. with this rose-tinted house release in hand, weston arrived on the scene and people took notice. the tape sold out within weeks. thing was, sam weston was not a fresh-face at all. he was here all along, although more commonly known as one half of influential sydney techno duo – alba. lorded for their brand of live-fire robotic grooves, alba became trailblazers in a town more miami than berlin, where brooding and rolling hypnosis weren’t often preferred to fist pumping “bangers”. wanting to flex his lovin’ spoonful of hypnotic lo-flung house, weston decided to release a handful of edits on his soundcloud. immediate attention was conjured and sam weston released the aforementioned shiraz voyager ep to a pretty amazing response. almost overnight, australia had a new hero in weston’s warm compositions that summon memories of sunny days and happier times.

after the release of their collaborative breed ep at the end of last summer, nicole moudaber and skin (from skunk anansie) have unveiled their highly anticipated remix package featuring a long list of respected producers. carl craig, fur coat, jamie jones, jerome sydenham, paco osuna, pan-pot and scuba, are just some of the names which have turned their hand to the project. originally born out of nicole and skin s desire to fuse their rock and techno backgrounds, this is a true collaboration project with a difference. the pair have also recently been sharing the stage at high-profile slots such as space ibiza and coachella. the first track on the second part see s don t talk to me i m dancin remixed by hot creation boss jamie jones, which features a thudding heavy bassline, and zebra katz vocals sampled over the top. the second track on the a side see s french emotive techno specialist paul ritch turns in an atmospheric, driving remix of these walls are made of water . first up on the b side is pan-pot s take on these walls are made of water , adding the duo s characteristic stomping touch, as well as dramatic new synth melodies. this remix is another nicole favourite, often featured in her sets and her in the mood radio shows. rounding off the b side jerome sydenham remixes don t talk to me i m dancin feat. zfk and takes the track into uptempo driving territory.

adelaide duo warren raww present a 12” that ups the energy of their july ep, whilst still delivering on their own brand of melodic, synth-laden house music. this time flanked by comrades arthur miles and freddie norwood, they add to the already high volume of talent currently emanating from australia.
the a side offerings shift between the more low-end driven aspect of warren raww’s production style, with off-kilter bass lines, punchy percussion and contemplative chord progression. the b side strips things back a bit further with a track each from arthur miles and freddie norwood. gliding pads, raw percussion, broken beats and rolling drums all melt together to deliver an essential slab of house music.
